Release, Reflect, Renew - As We Fall Deeply into the NOW

Our Theme for SEPT Enjoy Gathering: Release ~ Reflect ~ Renew

As we follow the seasons, as we allow our bodies, minds and spirits to become attuned with mother earth, we must find time in our busy lives to fall into ourselves completely, fully, openly, honestly.

Fall reminds us to release those things that no longer serve us, reflect on what we value and renew our attention to focus on our health, our vitality, our relationships.

At our Enjoy Gathering events, you will find

  • the support of like-minded people,

  • the connection and belonging that you crave,

  • the tools and resources for supporting your own health and wellbeing

  • AND the opportunity to affect positive change for your community

We will share healthy food and drink that nourishes our bellies and energizes our minds Please bring something to share!

As always, we welcome community spirit, co-creative energies, cooperation and collaboration with all of life as fall brings us the opportunity to Release, Reflect and Renew.

PRESS RELEASE - Here's What Our Community is Saying About Us

SPRUCE GROVE HAS A NEW WELLNESS INITIATIVE BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO PRACTICE JOYFUL LIVING WHILE GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.

The Enjoy Gathering is a new non-profit foundation hosting monthly workshops at the Pro-Biz Centre in Spruce Grove to raise awareness and promote community wellness in the Tri-Region area.  The workshops, hosted by local holistic health professionals, offer a place for the community to learn and participate in various health related practices such as yoga, meditation, and relaxation. A portion of the proceeds from these events will go to support people in the community who may not have access to alternative health resources

This wellness initiative was founded by Theresa de Rox, an Expressive Arts Educator/Consultant, and other local business owners engaged in community efforts because they saw the need to make health and wellness accessible for everyone in the community.

“Better health equals better lives equal better communities” said Theresa on the importance of creating a wellness initiative that builds meaningful relationships between community members and encourages people to live a healthier, more joyful life.

The next Enjoy Gathering workshop will take place on Sunday, July 28th ,2019 at the Pro-Biz Centre located at 95 McLeod Ave, Spruce Grove, AB, starting at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The upcoming “Just Breathe” workshop will focus on breathing techniques to help reduce stress and aid relaxation. Ticket information available at www.enjoygathering.com

We invite everyone in the Tri-Region community to come and join us to explore techniques that will leave your feeling recharged and rejuvenated!

Just Breathe - Summer time Should Feel like a Breath of Fresh Air

Our Theme for JULY Enjoy Gathering: JUST BREATHE!

Did you know? Diaphragmatic breathing - deep breathing or belly breathing - can lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, relax muscles, decrease stress, and increase energy levels. Deep breathing grounds us so we feel safe and balanced for our busy lives.

Summer time should feel like a great big breath of fresh air, but our lives are filled with such hustle and bustle we hardly get a chance to just breathe.

And as much as we might believe that we need time for self care, we don’t always practice it, nor do we feel we have time to just breathe. Life is just too busy.

We are here to find ways to just breathe - and I mean that very literally. We have forgotten the power of breathing deeply, the beautiful interactive exchange with nature - one breath at a time.

We will be exploring techniques that leave us feeling recharged, rejuvenated and reconnected to your life!

As always, we welcome community spirit, co-creative energies, cooperation and collaboration with all of life as summer brings the warmth and nourishment to grow deeply, fully and completely.

We will share healthy food and drink that nourishes our bellies and energizes our minds! We are so excited to share this time with you!

Re-Discover, Re-Design Your World with Permaculture

Re-Discover / Re-Design Your World with Permaculture

Not a new idea, but a fresh one that's becoming the way of sustainable living. Join us! Register today!

Working WITH nature, not against it. That's the basic premise of permaculture * and the concepts can be applied to many aspects of our lives, not just the environment/land that we live on.

If you've ever considered yourself a good steward of the land, a conscious citizen of Mother Earth, then don't miss out on this adventure with Kurtis Ewanchuk, Expanding Edge, and the Enjoy Gathering Team. Join us Sunday, May 26th, 11am-3pm.

*Permaculture is a design system which sprang up during the 1970s oil crisis, a reaction to food insecurity and the desire for self-reliance. Combining attitude and practical application, it encompasses anything from recycling, reusing and regenerating, to simply observing.

When applied to gardening it suggests that not only can we grow food almost anywhere - from fruit shrubs in patio pots to vines on fences - but we can get higher yields with less effort simply by mimicking nature. In contrast to many modern agricultural methods, a natural growing system sustains a continuous cycle, with dead plants becoming mulch for new growth.

Permaculture gardening seeks to recreate this cycle, turning food waste into valuable compost and replacing slug pellets and weed-killers with natural predators and natural competition.

Reach, Stretch, Grow!

Our Theme for APRIL Enjoy Gathering: REACH - STRETCH - GROW

Not just the clichés that are so familiar: Reach for the stars. Stretch your imagination. Grow through it. Although those are great reminders to have now and again.

But the kind of reaching and stretching and growing a plant embodies - especially during this spring season. When provided with the nourishment from the soil, the warmth and encouragement from the sun, and the unveiling of its own genetic coding - its inner knowing - the seedling pushes through the darkness of its own shell, reaches past the limits of its surroundings and grows into the sunlight.

Come find ways to Reach, Stretch, and Grow into the greatest aspirations for yourself so that you can live a more joyful life.

We will REACH, STRETCH AND GROW our bodies, minds, souls so that we can welcome each day with greater awareness and practice more joyful living.

We will welcome new (and old) ideas, and explore ways to enjoy our lives more fully, more deeply, more completely, more joyfully.

We will share healthy food and drink that nourishes our bellies and energizes our minds.

Awakening

Our MARCH Enjoy Gathering: AWAKENING

The sun is a salve to the soul.

Especially during this part of the year, our bodies begin to crave its warmth and energy. It beckons us to awaken, slowly, gently, tenderly, every moment of every day. Do we answer its call?

As the light warms our earth and invites new growth, we are warmed, our earth re-energized, revitalized. Do we notice? Do we welcome it into our daily practice?

We will explore AWAKENING our bodies, minds, souls so that we can greet each day with greater awareness.

We will welcome new ideas, new beginnings, new ways to enjoy our lives more fully, more deeply, more completely.

We will share healthy food and drink that nourishes our bellies and energizes our minds.

Here's What to Expect at this month's Enjoy Gathering:

The Voice Connection with Anna Beaumont

Self regulation and Co-regulation. What does that mean? and why is it important? and what does my voice have to do with it?

We will be hearing from Anna Beaumont, Singer, Songwriter, Teacher, Facilitator and Health Professional of Integrative Body Psychotherapy, on Sunday, Feb 24th, as she shares her knowledge and wisdom, offering practical tools for using our voice to connect with ourselves and with others.

Our Very Own Local Elder - Ken Lucyk

Ken Lucyk

Alberta Mobile Marketing

Deal Locally

Well, we have our very own local elder with us now.

Please welcome Ken Lucyk!

I met Ken through the ProBiz Centre, a friendly fellow who has a passion for helping small businesses stay relevant in the ever-changing marketing world! He attended several of the Coffee Connections for entrepreneurs and small business owners wanting to stay in touch with one another.

I didn’t know it then, just how community-focussed Ken was, but I hope you read the full length of his bio - and give him a shout out - he’s done some amazing things for our community over the years!

When I invited Ken to be an “elder” of our community, I reassured him that eldership is not based on age, but on community service. When he agreed, we were THRILLED! He sees himself as a “true Albertan”! And we are proud to have him as our first ELDER of this co-creative community, Enjoy Gathering!

“Ken is a true Albertan, born and raised in Edmonton. His father worked for the Edmonton Journal, so instead of an allowance, Ken was selling papers in downtown Edmonton for spending money. The family moved to a new house, in what was then a new area, when Ken turned 14. His father then got him a newspaper route. Problem was, school was about 2 miles away, and the newspaper route was from a newspaper drop site about 1/3 of the way home.

“He then had to transport the papers about ½ mile before beginning the route. To solve this problem, he finally talked his parents into letting him have a Honda Super Cub. He paid for it over the next year by delivering papers after school and then delivering prescriptions and working in a drugstore after school and weekends.

“The Honda Super Cub evolved into a life long fascination with motorcycles. In his late teens he raced scrambles, now called motocross. Ken worked at Alberta Cycle summers and for a brief time when he left school. He and his wife traveled through Alberta, British Columbia Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota via motorcycle.

“Norm Green, one of the owners at Alberta Cycle offered Ken the Parts Manager position if he would get his parts papers, a new program, offered in the automotive business. He then went on a journey, working for various auto dealers in the automotive business, from parts person to outside sales to Parts Manager. He never did get back to Alberta Cycle.

“Ken started work at Fuhr Ford Mercury in the fall of 1972, and bought a house in stony Plain in 1974. He joined the Lions Club of Stony Plain in 1977 and became secretary that same year. He transferred to Leduc in 1978, and became president there after he took on the position of Parts Manager at Deryk Thorn Ford Sales. Over 42 years Ken belonged to four Lions Clubs and served as President of three of them. He has held all offices in a Lions Club and was a 100% President, 100% Secretary and 100% Treasurer. Ken served thirteen years on the Lions District 37G Cabinet, three times as Deputy District Governor, and was nominated as District Governor, but unfortunately had to decline the position.

“In 1983, Ken formed a company with three additional shareholders and established the Parkland Bingo Centre in 1984, which enabled local community organizations to raise funds for their endeavours. He managed that for 10 years. During that time, he was also a director of the Spruce Grove Friends in Recreation Foundation and a Director of the Progressive Conservative Association of Stony Plain.

“Ken purchased an Academy of Learning franchise in 1994 and operated a Private Vocational College in Edmonton until the end of the century. They taught the business and computer skills necessary to obtain employment in the rapidly changing business world.

“Along with motorcycles, Ken developed a passion for computers and how they could aid people to accomplish more. To this end, he established Deal Locally Inc. to aid local independent businesses in marketing their products to the community in 2008 and Alberta Mobile Marketing in 2012 to put businesses on their customer’s phone.

“He now enjoys working with mostly small businesses, marketing and equipping them with today’s tools to increase their business. He is still very active in the community with the Lions Club and serving on the board of the Parkland Area Volunteer Action Committee (PAVAC).”

Why community? Why the gathering?

peopleincircle2.jpg

I truly believe in community…

but throughout my life there has been an underlying belief system - whether learned or inherited - that shaped my inner dialogue: needing help was weak, or wrong, or others would think poorly of me, depending on others meant I just wasn't good enough.

Have you found this to be true for you, too?

Here are 6 powerful reasons not to go it alone:

  1. Collective wisdom. No one person ever has all of the answers, and regardless of the amount of Google-fu you may have, consulting with experts is always going to give you better information.

  2. Pushing our limits. When working alone, it’s oftentimes too easy to give up when things get hard. By surrounding yourself with others working toward a similar goal or objective, you’ll get motivation, support, and friendly competition to push yourself just a bit further than you would have done on your own.

  3. Support and belief. Some days those big goals just seem impossible. On those days when you most want to give up, you need to lean on your community the most. They believe in you—probably more than you belief in yourself.

  4. New ideas. I truly believe that when you are working within a community of like-minded people that the wisdom of crowds is considerably greater than any one person working alone. Our divergent world views and lenses mean that we all approach the exact same problem slightly differently.

  5. Borrowed motivation. Even on those days when your belief in yourself isn’t waning, doing what needs to get done can seem overwhelming. Look around your community and be inspired!

  6. Accountability. If you’re an uber-responsible person, you may not want to admit to people you care about who are pulling for you that something didn’t get done. There’s nothing like having to be accountable to others to up your game. Allowing others to help is hard, but it ultimately raises everyone’s game, and suddenly that summit isn’t nearly so far off.

What's your word for 2019?

joie-de-vivre.jpeg

Joie de vivre - my word(s) for 2019, is a French phrase often used in English to express a cheerful enjoyment of life; an exultation of spirit.

It "can be a joy of conversation, joy of eating, joy of anything one might do… And joie de vivre may be seen as a joy of everything, a comprehensive joy, a philosophy of life.

I must say I've experienced moments of joyful living, fleeting as they may have seemed... so how to maintain and sustain joy in my life - THAT's what I'm after this year!

Being “in spirit” is akin to having that joie de vivre. Being settled, grounded, purposeful, intentful and mindful about what you say, do, how you behave, the choices you make...

I think it will come organically, unexpectedly, often mysteriously, as I continually choose to think, act, do, and behave in ways of my spirit, my essence. This may mean letting go of old conditioning and being a bit vulnerable, wholeheartedly.

It may also mean to continually view my life as a small, but very meaningful part of a much bigger picture. It will mean understanding and accepting my “being” as an integral part of an interconnected, carefully patterned yet ever changing bowl of cosmic soup.

I'm ready to practice and celebrate the joy of living! How about you?!?

(I couldn't resist this pic, lol!)

Through song, dance, storytelling, and sharing of food, they celebrated the journey that is life.

We’ve lost touch with this kind of gathering. In an age of hyperconnectivity, we’ve lost touch with the human element that brings meaning to our lives, purpose to our hearts, and joy to our souls.

There is an awakening to gather again, to reconnect with others on a deeper level: To co-create conscious community, one Gathering at a time. Come join the Gathering!

Joy is an Inside Job

EG-joy-ladylaughing.jpeg

Joy is an inside job! #joyfulliving #enjoygathering #joy

During a very busy and somewhat hectic season, joy can feel quite out of reach. Until we realize that joy is an inside job.

We have been taught to look for it outside of ourselves, but we create our own emotions, we are responsible for how we feel. We must be proactive in how we are reacting or responding to each encounter, each conversation, each circumstance.

Taking a moment to reconnect with what is important to us, what really matters... taking time to practice being actively engaged in each moment - as often as we can throughout the day.

It doesn't have to be in a yoga studio or on a massage table, it simply means a breath here and there that relaxes our bodies and frees our minds from the stress mode, the fight, flight or freeze modes that consume most of our energy and time. Try it out right now. And breathe! :)

This is Me...

T - truly_me.jpg

I come from a long line of givers, servants of the heart, beautiful souls who believe in a benevolent universe, who trust that life, with all its meanderings, is nevertheless meant to be lived fully, completely, unapologetically free. For that I am immensely grateful.

Over the course of my life, I have been blessed to experience deep, intense moments of true community, of breaking bread together with like-minded souls, of sharing in song and dance and laughter and tears, of holy moments, of awe and wonder and miracles, but also moments of shared humanity, of profound grief and loss and separation and sadness and abandonment and disappointment and pain.

So I stepped away for awhile, I stepped away from all of it thinking that I had lost everything, my family, my passion, my purpose, my reason to live… I distanced myself so I might not feel the pain, I busied myself so I might not remember the grief, I protected and shielded myself, putting a smile on my face so life wouldn’t ask any more of me; I buried, I hid, thinking I would be safe…

But I woke up from that nightmare gasping for air, realizing that this was how it felt to slip away in the night, in the dark, my life essence slowly, quietly, apathetically draining from my weary bones… how many years wasted, unfelt, untouched, unlived. Yes, I woke up realizing that I was dying a slow death, not even having truly lived, not even having time to say goodbye to my loved ones.

I’m not hiding anymore, I’m not wasting anymore time, I’m not playing small or insignificant, I’m no longer willing to hold back my shine, my radiance, my beauty, my love, my heart, my voice, my right and privilege and honour to live a full life, a whole life, a joyful life, come what may.

So this, I built this, Enjoy Gathering, so you would come… so you would join me in realizing just how much life there is to live, just how much joy there is to be shared, just how much possibility is available to us in any given moment. Let us gather together to live a joyful life!

For the Joy of Sharing

ENJOYGathering Presentation.025.jpeg

Sharing is one of my deepest joys. I have been a giver/sharer from day one, and I know how to do it really well. But sometimes I forget to also give to myself...

"Self care" has become quite the cliché these days, but really, like, really, if we cannot give to ourselves then our well of aliveness is quickly drained, our abundant richness is easily depleted and our fullness becomes emptiness and loneliness.

It's no longer a reciprocal life-giving process if our giving is not also receiving graciously, if our sharing is not also repaid with kindness to ourselves. Believe me, I know. #beentheredonethat

This last year has been one of the toughest years of my life, for various reasons, unprocessed accumulated grief, to name the big one. But mostly, for years my self worth was based on serving others. Down deep in my belief systems, tending to my own needs was considered selfish, self-centred and self-serving so I was wrapped up in giving and giving and giving in order to feel loved.

Maybe some of you can relate. We all have some belief systems that have kept us bound to cultural, societal or religious norms/standards/expectations. But we don't have to live/be/do that anymore.

I'm here to "share" with you as I am "sharing" with myself that I have the right AND the privilege, indeed, the honour to be free, to live in joy, to explore what that means for me.

That's one of the many reasons "Enjoy Gathering" is my focus, my passion, my purpose.
